Effects of Whitening Toothpastes on Microhardness and Surface Roughness of Composite Resins: An In Vitro Study

Objective: This study aimed to assess the effect of different types whitening toothpastes on microhardness and surface roughness composite resins. Material Methods: 120 discshaped samples each Clearfil Majesty Esthetic Gradia Direct Anterior resins were randomly assigned 4 groups, based toothpaste used [three toothpastes: Signal White Now (SWN), Colgate Optic (COW), Ipana 3D Luxe (IWL), one non-whitening toothpaste: Sensodyne Promine (SP)]. The brushed using an electrical toothbrush for minutes. Before after toothbrushing (n=15) Vickers values measured topography was observed scanning electron microscopy. Data analyzed repeated measures analysis variance Bonferroni correction (p˂0.05). Results: significantly affected by (p=0.013) there a significant interaction between (p˂0.001). increased with all toothpastes. SWN IWL showed higher than SP (p=0.024 p=0.028, respectively). There increase in SWN, (p=0.003, p˂0.001 p=0.029, Conclusion: In this study, it determined that Anterior, (except COW) Anterior. Clinicians should notify patients abrasive capacity toothpastes, especially those are whitening.
